Welcome To The Matrix
Big news, people! Big news. Today we caught Al Qaeda's #2 man in Iraq.
No, I'm sure this guy we caught today really will deal a "severe blow" to Al Qaeda just like they're saying. After all, that's what they said after Al Zarqawi was killed and things are so much better now. Right? War is peace, comrades. War is peace.
Al Qaeda's No. 2 operative in Iraq, Hamed Juma Faris al-Suaidi, has been arrested, the U.S. military and Iraq's national security adviser announced Sunday.Al-Suaidi, also known as Abu Rana and Abu Humam, is said to be second in command in the terrorist group al Qaeda in Iraq, behind Abu Ayyub al-Masri.
Al-Masri succeeded Abu Musab al-Zarqawi after he was killed during a U.S. airstrike in June.
"This is a very important development," Iraq's Planning Minister Barham Salih told CNN.
So this is great news. Except...well, it seems a little familiar doesn't it?
AN AL-QAEDA commander claimed by the Americans to be the group’s second-in-command in Iraq has been shot dead in a raid on his safe house, the US military said yesterday.Ah yes. We killed the #2 guy last year. But wait...
Sept. 28, 2005 - U.S. intelligence officials and counterterrorism analysts are questioning whether a slain terrorist—described by President Bush today as the “second-most-wanted Al Qaeda leader in Iraq”—was as significant a figure as the Bush administration is claiming.Hmm. Now that's interesting. But a simple mistake I'm sure. There's no reason to doubt our leaders about today's catch. It's not like there's been such a reoccuring theme regarding #2's both in and out of Iraq that The Onion has felt the need to weigh in. And it's not like it's so common that it was really easy to find a cartoon on this very subject.
No, I'm sure this guy we caught today really will deal a "severe blow" to Al Qaeda just like they're saying. After all, that's what they said after Al Zarqawi was killed and things are so much better now. Right? War is peace, comrades. War is peace.

Heh - are you old enough to remember The Prisoner? They had a new Number Two every week. Patrick McGoohan kept asking 'Who is Number One?', only to be told 'YOU are Number Six.'
"I am not a number, I am a FREE MAN!"
*maniacal laughter*
ooh, I gotta blog that..
